What would the world be without emojis!? Like, how would we express ourselves!? No, but really! Emojis have spiced up the way that we communicate and made expressing ourselves via text easier so it's important that we have emojis that represent the world we live in. That's why emoji has strived to update their collection with emojis that best repress the times. This month, emoji announced the new emoji package due for late 2021 through 2022. The new set includes 838 brand new emojis including 35 icons and 75 skin tone updates -okay diversity! The icons includes everything from the troll (go Fremont) and Hans to fingerers and lip biting for the lil nasties. However, there's one emoji in particular that has stirred up some controversy: the pregnant man emoji.

Emojipedia released a statement answering users questions surrounding the new emoji. The new emoji "may be used for representation by trans men, non-binary people, or women with short hair—though, of course, use of these emojis is not limited to these groups." They also explained that the new emoji is a "tongue-in-cheek" way of saying you're full with a "food baby," which we're all familiar with around the holidays. Did you know emojis date back to 1997 where there were only 4 that referenced gender: "man," woman," "boy," and "girl". However as emoji evolved, Unicode has strived to make their emojis more inclusive of both gender and nationality. Finally I'll be able to announce that I'm pregnant with a food baby the right way ..... no but really, representation matters in all forms so this is really exciting! Whether on TV or social media or emoji, everyone deserves and needs to be seen! What do you think!? Hit me up on Instagram @BennettKnows and sound off! Don't forget to check out the brand new emoji set below!
