Last year, I had the privilege of walking in the Seattle Pride parade for the first time ever! This moment meant the world to me; walking the parade with my husband and my brand new station, both dreams come true! Seattle, Washington has been a very special place for both professional and personal growth. Back in 2016, when I moved from Rhode Island to Seattle with the hopes of pursuing a career in media, I never knew the amount of personal growth I would see throughout the journey. That's why I was so excited to have the privilege of hosting Virtual Karaoke during this year's Seattle PRIDE. Of course, PRIDE is a time full of love, excitement and fun but it goes being said that this annual celebration started as protests and riots back in1969 with the uprising at New York City's Stone Wall Inn where members of the LGBTQ, many people of color, fought against the oppression of members of the community, sparking riots across the country. During a time where we see similar protests of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, we should note that justice still has not been served for Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and many others. As we close out another celebratory PRIDE month, we must remember the roots that PRIDE month also had in the struggle and freedom for one, is not freedom for all. Happy Pride!
