Ed Sheeran is already throwing his hat in the ring for the song of the summer with his new single "Azizam."
On Friday (April 4), Sheeran dropped the lead single "Azizam" — a Farsi phrase that translates to "my dear" — to his forthcoming album Play, which will be the first record for his next album series that includes albums Pause, Rewind, Fast-Forward and Stop, per Billboard.
In addition to the single, Sheeran dropped the "pink heart" music video that was filmed in cities across the U.S. over the past month while promoting the track, writing in a post on Instagram ahead of its release that he wanted the visuals to reflect the "amazing atmosphere wherever we went."
Throughout the video, Sheeran can be seen partying with strangers, driving around cities and even getting to work in the recording studio, all accompanied by a pink heart-shaped balloon.
Following the track's release, Sheeran shared a post on Instagram thanking fans for their support in his new era while teasing more "surprises" yet to come in the caption.
"i'm so overwhelmed with the positive reaction to this song, and so excited for all the other surprises i have for ya," he wrote. "hope this sets the scene of the soundtrack to your summer, more to come xx"
Sheeran previously teased the single in a recent post parodying a viral "morning routine" video in which he gave fans a look inside his wild early morning shenanigans. He also shocked fans on a bustling street in New Orleans by performing the song with a band as they marched around the French Quarter, which was even featured in his new music video.
