The hustle and bustle of big city life is often a draw for tourists looking to explore what exciting nightlife and award-winning restaurants. However, some of the most charming and interesting places to visit are the smaller towns scattered around the vast expanse of America.

Cheapism searched around the U.S. for the best small towns to visit in the country, compiling a list of the "cute small towns [that] represent much of what is great about each state or region, just on a smaller scale than larger cities — and typically at a lower price."

Among the list, which includes stunning destinations like seaside towns in Florida and locales in the heart of "bourbon country" in Kentucky, is one town in Washington. Port Angeles was named one of the best smaller towns to visit in the country, earning praise for its fine arts center and proximity to scenic views of surrounding nature. The site also suggests checking out the Salt Creek Recreation Area of "dramatic views of Crescent Bay and the Strait of Juan De Fuca."

Here's what the site had to say:

"Port Angeles, home to about 20,000 residents, sits right outside Olympic National Park, where visitors can enjoy ocean views, waterfalls, and hiking trails. [...] Visitors can also head to the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center to visitor Webster's Woods Art Park, an outdoor area where artworks are hung from trees and hidden in the foliage. Admission is free."
