I remember attending my first Bubblin Brown Sugar dance competition back in 2005! So it's great to know this event is still happening years later.
Bubblin Brown Sugar is a High School Dance Competition that takes place in Seattle, WA at Garfield High School. For nearly 40 years, the event has featured synchronize dance teams competing for the title of best in the City. After a 5-year hiatus, the event returned in 2016 to a grateful community that missed the event. Teams of up to 15 dancers perform 5 to 10-minute routines filled with coordinated, dynamic enthusiasm. Official High School teams compete for the championship and exhibition teams for a variety of backgrounds perform for pride! The event is judged by local and national personalities that have deep roots in the dance community. More than just a competition and great fun, the event has turned into an intergenerational reunion of sorts with alumni, friends, and whole families in attendance.
Proceeds from the event benefit 100 Black Parents, a Seattle based 501c(3) non-profit, that leads students and parent engagement programs at Garfield High School and beyond.
