Every year TIME magazine names the 100 most influential people. The year's list always highlights a hand of individuals including artists, politicians, activists, athletes and icons that influenced a year in events. This year some notable mentions include Simone Biles, Naomi Osaka, Britney Sprears, Lil Nas X, Timbaland and Swizz Beats, Bad Bunny, Kamala Harris and the Smiths (Adrienne Banfield Norris, Jada Pinket Smith and Willow Smith) amongst many other others. The list features interviews with colleagues of those inducted onto the list; such as Kid Cudi who spoke on Lil Nas X, "to have a gay man in hip-hop doing his thing, crushing records - that is huge for us and for Black excellence. The way he's unafraid to make people uncomfortable is so rock 'n' roll. He's a true rock star." and J Balvin who spoke on Bad Bunny, "He's an artist, period. A true artist. Now he's at his peak, taking Latin culture to another level. The records he's broken are amazing. He's different. Special. People wait for someone to doe to say, "Oh was a legend." But I'm telling Benito now: You are on of the greatest artists in Latin music history."
Powerful words for some powerful people! Of all of the world's powerful people, how are these individuals chosen? In an article released by TIME explaining how the inductees are chosen it was explained, "[the] instinct to “run toward the struggle,” as Andrés puts it, is characteristic of nearly everyone on this year’s list, though of course results may vary depending on whom you ask. They are disrupters, fixers, doers, iconoclasts, problem solvers—people who in a year of crisis have leaped into the fray." I'd definitely agree that a lot of the individuals on this list have sparked action, change or at the least thought in my life! You can check out TIME's Most Influential People of 2021 HERE.
