For this blog we're taking it back to my hometown of Providence, Rhode Island where milkcrates were stacked at popular India Point Park following the trending #MilkCrakeChallenge. The challenge, started on TikTok, is simple: stack the milk crates as high as you dare and see if you can walk up and down them. The trend, which currently has 40 million hits across social media, usually ends with those who dare, falling to the ground in horror. Although the odds are usually against the dare devils, there are very few that complete the challenge like this woman in Los Angeles, California who completed it in heels! I'm not sure what's more captivating, the thought of strategizing your way up the crates or learning from others mistakes.
Being a dare devil myself, without a doubt, I would have took my chance if the challenge presented itself ... that's until I seen this very graphic video. The gathering at India Point Park came to an end when a man fell from the top of the crate pyramid, landing on his wrist. In the graphic video, the man could be seen walking away with a very broken wrist. Doctors are begging people not to people to stop doing the challenge, "It’s perhaps even worse than falling from a ladder,” one explained. “It’s very difficult to brace yourself from the falls I’ve seen in these videos. They’re putting their joints at an even higher risk for injury." Tik Tok even released a rare statement claiming, "TikTok prohibits content that promotes or glorifies dangerous acts, and we remove videos and redirect searches to our Community Guidelines to discourage such content. We encourage everyone to exercise caution in their behavior whether online or off.” While both doctors and Tik Tok warn against the dangers, the bets are high and the crates are getting stacked across the globe with everyone climbing from aunties and uncles to police offers and gang bangers in between!
A Go Fund Me for the man in the video was launched yesterday reading, "[He] just broke his arm badly and needs help from the community! Please support, anything helps. All proceeds will be given directly to [him] and his family to cover medical bills." We're wishing him the speediest recovery, an MTV Scarred episode and many free drinks at the bar in the future!
